Family of Kisii County staff forcefully evicted

A senior County staff residing in Nyanchwa, Kisii town, has been forcefully evicted from her house by county law enforcers who claimed to be acting on orders from a high-ranking official within the county government.

According to Jackline Kerubo, one of the victims of the eviction, the ordeal began early in the morning when a group of Kisii County law enforcement officers arrived at their residence without prior notice. 

“They told us they had orders to evict us. When I pleaded with them and explained that we had nowhere else to go, they simply said they were following orders from above.”

The enforcement team reportedly declined to disclose the identity of the person who authorized the operation, only stating that the directive came from a "very influential person" in the county administration. 

However, they were quick to clarify that Kisii County Governor Simba Arati was not involved in the matter.

The officers allegedly proceeded to remove the family’s belongings from the house before locking the premises, leaving the family stranded and without shelter.

Mary Kwamboka, the mother of the evicted family, expressed her frustration and dismay at the manner in which the eviction was carried out saying that they should have sent an eviction notice in advance before.

The family is now calling on Governor Simba Arati to intervene and help them find justice and shelter following the incident. 

This eviction has raised concerns over the use of force and lack of transparency in local government actions, as well as the potential misuse of power by unnamed individuals within the county administration.
