Busia County Marks World Africa Child Day with Calls for Child Welfare.

Busia County joined the rest of Africa in commemorating World Africa Child Day, an event dedicated to advocating for children's rights and welfare. 

The celebrations, held in Mayenje, Matayos, brought together government officials, child welfare organizations, and community members to discuss pressing issues affecting children in the region.

 The director of the organisation of Smile woman of Africa Beatrice Juma emphasized the need for stronger policies to protect children from exploitation and ensure access to quality education. 

The Busia town chief Oscar Halende urged parents and guardians to prioritize children's well-being, stressing that investing in young people is key to the county’s future..

He has also pleaded with with the government of Kenya to collaborate with Ugandan government so that the street kids can reduce.

According to children officer at Matayos in Busia County Euphrasia Agala says that children have been facing challenges related to child labor and access to education, with many of them forced into work at a young age due to economic hardships. 

She called for collaborative efforts between the government and stakeholders to address these issues.

The World Africa Child Day is observed annually on June 16, commemorating the Soweto Uprising of 1976, where thousands of South African students protested against educational injustices.

 The day serves as a reminder of the importance of children’s rights and the need for continuous efforts to improve their lives.
